I’m going to be blunt about this, I have weighed myself every day for the last I don’t know how many years (likely 10+) and there are mixed reviews about this. Now that I think of it, that’s part of the reason that I became a Certified Health & Life Coach in the first place, because there is SOOOO much info out there that contradicts other info and I wanted to learn how to cut out the noise. Well, try to, lol.
Anyway, weighing yourself every day is one of those things that there are arguments on both sides on why and then why you definitely should NOT be weighing yourself every day.
In my experience, it’s best just to choose what works best for YOU and run with it. ❤️
So – I choose to weigh myself every day. I’m pretty sure it came from when my daughters were small, I was completely burnt out & dealing with a ton of anxiety and had gained 40 pounds & started going to weight watchers meetings.
Here’s some reasons you “should” weigh yourself every day (I do first thing in morning, I get out of bed, use the bathroom, head to the scale):
- You know right away if you’re on an upward (or downward) trend
- It’s supposed to be easier to maintain your weight
- Studies show that if you weigh yourself every day, you have higher success rates of meeting your weight goals
I have to say, I”ve been trying to lose the same 15+ pounds for many years 😂 so I’m not totally married to these studies. BUT I do see when I’m headed in a direction that I don’t like and therefore can make my decisions based on that. Plus, earlier this year I lost 10 pounds and it was very encouraging to see the number go down and I found my daily weigh in to be very helpful.

Now, on the other side, here are some reasons you may NOT want to weigh every day:
- Sometimes there’s a HUGE jump from the day before and it can freak you out! (In my experience, it’s usually because I’ve eaten late the night before, or ate really salty food, something like that)
- Us ladies have periods & menstrual cycles which can affect the number
- If you’re also strength training, you can see a gain because muscle weighs more than fat

This brings me to the part where I swear I’m not trying to sell you something 😆 but to feel invited to invest in the scale that I’ve been using for years! (As an Amazon Associate I can earn a small commission from qualifying purchases).

This one shown here is the scale in my bathroom and I find the price to be excellent (usually around $40 CAD) and it comes with an app where it will keep track of your weight and body composition so there’s no need to write things down to keep track if you don’t want to.
That said, I weigh myself daily and then put the number into another app (Lose it) before it tracks my body composition because I don’t want or need to see that info every day.
I also don’t think that the numbers it spits out for composition is entirely accurate, but I do think that it’s going to provide a nice baseline that will allow you to see if you’re heading in a direction that you are in favor of.
RENPHO scales keep track of the following (at least, this is what mine does):
- BMR
- Body Water Percentage
- Protein Percentage
- Weight (obviously lol)
- BMI
- Body Fat Percentage
- Subcutaneous Fat
- Visceral Fat
- Muscle Mass
- Skeletal Muscle Percentage
- Bone Mass
- Fat Free Mass
- Metabolic Age
So in this case, say your goal is to build muscle, you can take that first measurement (your baseline) and then I personally track it again at least a couple weeks or a month later to see if you’re meeting that goal. Is it 100% accurate? I don’t think so, but if you’re tracking it and also seeing progress and you’re getting stronger, I feel it’s helpful to see the “proof” on your report. I would not recommend tracking that number every day or even every week.

Now comes the time when I’d love to hear your thoughts on this: Do you weigh yourself daily, weekly, monthly? Or maybe you don’t weigh yourself at all?
I read every single comment & love to hear from you!! ❤️
And if you already have this scale, or a similar one, what do you love & not love about it?
Have yourself the best day! 💖
